What is Ambulatory Phlebectomy?
Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a treatment for removing varicose veins located on the surface of the legs. Before treatment, Dr. Youssef will use ultrasound to map the veins in your legs in order to identify the main source of the problem, properly diagnose you and make recommendations to use other procedures if necessary (such as Endovenus Laser treatment or Sclerotherapy).
What is the process of the procedure?
Once you have been identified as a candidate for ambulatory phlebectomy, you will be given tumescent anaesthesia, which causes the blood vessels to constrict; preventing bleeding. Then, the doctor will make several small punctures in the problem area and remove the vein through these punctures using a special vein hook.
What is the recovery process for this procedure?
Since these punctures are so tiny, no stitches will be required, but you will have to wear a compression garment and dressing. You will be able to walk immediately after the procedure, but Dr. Youssef suggests that you try to get as much exercise as possible as soon as you can. Walking thirty minutes a day will reduce the chance of getting a blood clot.
