What is Endovenus Laser Treatment?
Endovenus Laser treatment (EVLT) is used to treat varicose veins, and is regarded as “one of the greatest medical breakthroughs.” Patients that have malfunctioning veins in their legs can undertake an EVLT to swiftly and safely remove the bad vein.
What is the process of EVLT?
Dr. Youssef uses the EVLT ultrasound monitoring system to identify the ideal location to insert the laser fiber. Once the location is chosen, the doctor will administer tumescent anaesthesia to protect the tissue and reduce bleeding, then a tiny incision will be made on the leg, followed by insertion of the laser fiber. Once inserted the laser machine will be activated, creating a low, intense heat that shrinks the vein and vein walls, forcing blood to flow through the healthy veins. Eventually the vein will shrink up and ablate (or close up).
What should I expect?
This process takes about thirty to forty-five minutes and since this process is minimally invasive, there are no recovery steps for this procedure.
