Benefits of Ketamine Therapy in Los Angeles
Coping Ability
Ketamine therapy provides a calming effect, helping you cope better with stressors.
Long Lasting
Because the beneficial effects can last for days or weeks, daily sessions won’t be required.
Medical Oversight
Careful consultation and review of medical history by a licensed professional ensures safety.
Consultation
It starts with a personal consultation with your trained and licensed Younique provider. During this relaxing and compassionate one-on-one, they’ll discuss your concerns, your goals for treatment, and your medical history. The provider will also evaluate your symptoms, listening with understanding and respect. If your provider determines that ketamine therapy in Los Angeles is the best treatment option, your sessions can be scheduled.
Procedure
The consultation phase determines the proper dose. During your infusion session, your provider will cleanse and disinfect the injection site on your arm and gently place the IV port. Your dose bag containing the ketamine and hydration fluid will be attached, and then you can relax for an hour as the medicine enters your bloodstream. Although most times the therapy takes place on a different appointment from the initial consultation, some patients with life-threatening conditions might need to undergo the therapy immediately.
Recovery
During the IV infusion session, it is common to feel light and mellow. After the entire dose has been delivered, your provider will ask you to remain at Younique Surgery Center and Med Spa for a few minutes to an hour. This is done to ensure your safety and monitor your vitals for the appearance of any possible side effects. The light and mellow sensation usually fades a few minutes after the treatment is completed. Most patients experience mood improvement after 1 or 2 days. This effect can last for a few weeks.
Does ketamine therapy in Los Angeles cause discomfort?
Since ketamine is administered through an IV injection, patients tend to feel a pinch when the needle penetrates the skin. However, the treatment is not painful and doesn’t cause any discomfort. If there are specific sensitivities to the IV insertion, topical anesthetic can be applied at the injection site.
After the initial pinch, the drug begins dripping slowly, and a mellow sensation takes place. Once this occurs, there are no other unpleasant sensations.
What issues are more appropriate for treatment with ketamine therapy?
Ketamine is mainly used in treatment-resistant depression. This is due to its powerful effect on glutamate, an essential neurotransmitter that regulates a person’s mood.
These neurotransmitters allow the information to travel across each neuron in the brain. However, when people suffer from mental health conditions, the way this information travels can be compromised.
To prevent this, ketamine blocks some NMDA receptors in the brain.
Beyond general depression, ketamine therapy can also treat different mental health conditions, such as:
- PTSD
- Anxiety
- Acute suicidality
- Bipolar
- Postpartum depression
It has been reported that ketamine has helped bipolar patients maintain stable mental conditions. The improvement in glutamate function prevents mood drifts and eases manic and depressive episodes. Ketamine infusion therapy can also ease chronic pain caused by neuronal injuries, such as fibromyalgia and phantom limb pain.
